Audi is known to make amazing cars. They are one of the finest companies as they have the best cars for every category. Be it a normal sedan, a sports hatchback, a performance sedan, or a sports car. Every person once in a while has always dreamt of owning one of these German beauties in their life. I have always dreamt of owning an RS7 as that car defines class, luxury, and chivalry. Coming back to the topic, there has been a constant growth in the field of electronic vehicles. People love the raw sound of a roaring V8 but they also want something cheaper to maintain and good for the environment. Audi has also stepped its foot in the EV market by introducing the brand new Audi e-Tron. This car comes in 2 variants, the e-Tron, and the e-Tron Sportback. Let’s have a look at this amazing car and decide if it fits the market.
Design Of Audi e-Tron –
According to many people, the design of this car is not as appealing as the Jaguar I-Pace or not as innovative as the Tesla Model X. But personally speaking, I love this design and would not mind switching to an EV. I think this is what Audi is trying to prove, they want more and people to accept electric vehicles. The car looks a cross-version of one of their luxury sedans. Audi has also designed the car in such a way so as to achieve practical usage. They have made the vehicle in such a way that it can tow up to 4000 pounds.
Look wise the car looks very premium like an RS series sedan. It has those signature headlamps and has enough ducts for proper airflow.
Interior and Cabin Of Audi e-Tron-
The e-Tron being a 5 seater crossover has a cutting edge and a very practical cabin. The cabin is full of displays and touchscreens which also include Audi’s digital gauge cluster called the virtual cockpit. The interior looks very much influenced by the cockpit of modern commercial jets like the A350 and the 787. More options such as a heads up display and massaging front seats are also available.
In terms of the infotainment system, the car has 2 high-resolution touch compatible displays controlling the system. The 10.1-inch display on the top provides access to the top of the line Bang and Olufsen audio system. It also gives the user options to control navigation and smartphone-related content. The bottom screen is an 8.8-inch touchscreen that controls the onboard functions of the car. It controls features such as the climate settings of the car.
The car also has a massive boot space thanks to the brilliant idea of the engineers at Audi. Instead of shoving the battery pack inside the boot of the car, Audi chose to mount it under the car. This not only provides more boot space but also provides more ground clearance and a flat floor. The boot has a volume of 29 cubic feet without the seats folded. With the seats folded in, space goes up to 57 cubic feet.
Powertrain and Performance Of Audi e-Tron-
The 95.3 kWh lithium-Ion battery pack powers the two electric motors of this all-wheel-drive car. They make a combined horsepower of 355 and produce 414 lb-ft of torque. In sport mode, you get some extra horses and the number goes up to 402. In terms of range, Audi is upgrading the battery pack to achieve more range from the 2020 model. The 2019 model, on the other hand, had a driving range of about 204 miles which may be enough for city use and short drives but is still less than its competitors, the Jaguar I Pace and Tesla Model X long range. But since Audi is planning to launch this vehicle primarily in developed nations like the USA, the range would not be a problem since fast chargers can be found pretty much in every gas station. The E-Tron’s battery is compatible with the 150 kW DC chargers and hence can regain 50 miles in 10 minutes and 160 in 30.
Safety and Driver’s assistance –
The car has been rated a 5 by the NHTSA in crash test rating. The car also has a number of driver assistance features some of which include a standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking system, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane departure warning. Audi also has a lot in terms of the warranty. It provides limited and powertrain warranty for 4 years or for 50,000 miles. Electronic components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles and complimentary maintenance is provided for a year or 10,000 miles.
My Verdict -
The Audi e-Tron is a practical EV with sporty looks and feels. The car has decent power and torque and provides an opulent interior with great features. The range is a bit on the low side but fast chargers will get you back on the road in no time. In terms of safety, the car gets 100 percent and Audi provides enough coverage to its customers.
I would totally buy this car as it looks great and not like any of those weird future cars.
